A Dog Takes a Day Trip to Windsor Castle

March 30, 2018

This was our second time at Windsor castle, and since we didn’t take a tour this time we decided to bring the pup. If you decide to bring your dog keep in mind animals are not allowed inside the castle and you will only be able to see the outside of it. Windsor is a charming town with plenty of shopping, restaurants and bars (with outside seating) where you can bring your dog. Many of the bars will allow your dog inside, if you ask, and even have treats (which Coco found quite delicious) for your dog!

The average train time between London and Windsor is about 42 minutes, and I would recommend getting off at Windsor Eaton Central. The town is located in the rural countryside of Berkshire, which makes for some beautiful scenery. Upon arrival to Windsor, I was surprised how close the train station was to the castle. There were plenty of restaurants and bars to grab a bite to eat or drink on the way to the castle, but I don’t remember any cafes in the castle so make sure you grab something to eat before going inside.

If you are visiting London or if you are a local, Windsor castle is a must see. It is the oldest and largest continuously occupied castle in the world! It is also the Queen’s favorite private residence to spend her weekends at. She even prefers it to Buckingham palace.

As beautiful as Windsor castle is, the surrounding town is equally as beautiful. The town is nearly a thousand years old and is so cute and quaint with cobbled streets and hanging baskets on the buildings. We visited during the winter which was the perfect time for us before all the crowds rushed in during the spring and summer months. We loved the Christmas lights as we walked around the town and enjoyed the light show on the castle once the sun set. If you decide to visit in the winter, the castle is closed for a couple of weeks in January so make sure you check before going. You don’t want to miss it!

I highly recommend stopping at The Horse & Groom for great food, drinks and an amazing view of the castle. This was one of the bars that had treats for dogs!
