Exploring Jardin Parc (Public Garden) with a Dog in Bordeaux

April 16, 2018

Jardin parc, built in the 18th century, is the most famous park in Bordeaux and one of the most beautiful we have been too.  If you have seen our previous posts about Bordeaux, you will know the stunning city is located in the south of France and is a major wine region. The park is located in the heart of Bordeaux and it really surprised us with it’s sanctuary of beauty and peace.  It is the perfect place to bring your dog (we saw ALOT of them in the park) and have a picnic. It is ok to drink in the streets, so bring a bottle of wine with you! It’s what the locals do. In fact, public drinking in France is legal.  Just make sure you don’t have any open containers in public transport, you won’t get away with it.

On the way to the park we came across a little food festival.

I couldn’t pass up on this churro filled with nutella. We saw a lot of these in Bordeaux. They are popular in Spain and Portugal and the treats have expanded to the south of France as well. Coco drooled over it so I gave him some yummy carrots (his favorite),

Next to the food festival we found this beautiful fountain!

While entering the park we came across this sign. The bridge is “forbidden to dogs.” Tell us what you think Coco. “No dogs? But it says nothing about those evil cats.” The rest of the park is very dog friendly.

Shhh. Don’t tell. I carried him on the bridge to snap a quick pic. No regrets. This little bridge, where ducks and swans swim under, led us to a cute carousel and then giant 19th century mansions.

Perfect place to chill out of the sunshine and enjoy some wine. The weather was perfect! Sunny but with a nice cool breeze.

We let Coco off leash for a bit before the park closed when no other people or dogs were around to let off some steam.

If you are visiting Bordeaux and want to take a break from all the hustle of the city, take a couple hours and relax with a bottle of wine in the park (I recommend something from the region Saint Emilion). Locals say that the soul of Bordeaux might be found here.
